Amidst a fraught flow for some high-profile United States crypto firms and fiscal regulators, Kraken main legal officer Marco Santori is calling for a dose of pragmatism going forrard.
Speaking on Bloomberg's QuickTake Stock broadcast on Th, Santori told viewers, "You're living in a fantasy world if y'all don't believe that this industry is going to face heavier, more Wall Street-like regulation from governments in the U.South. and abroad."
Santori'southward comments follow threats past the U.S. Securities and Substitution Commission before this month to sue the well-known crypto commutation Coinbase over a crypto yield programme the committee deemed to be a security. The move sparked the exchange'southward CEO, Brian Armstrong, to prefer a combative and resistant stance on social media, although the exchange has since announced it will scrap the programme at issue, in line with the SEC'due south wishes.
Commenting directly on the developments, Santori said, "I've certainly followed Brian'south tweets, and I'll say that look, you're but not being honest with yourself well-nigh the crypto community if a lilliputian chip of you doesn't think he'south proverb what a lot of people are thinking." He soon pivoted, all the same, taking pains to articulate the more pragmatic agenda he'south pursuing at Kraken:
"I can't support that kind of approach with regulators. It'south never been successful historically, and from our experience, we've found the SEC to exist open to discussion."

U.S. fiscal regulators, peculiarly nether SEC Chair Gary Gensler, have indicated they intend to introduce a host of policy changes this year that will bear upon token offerings, decentralized finance, stablecoins, custody, exchange-traded funds and lending platforms.
